The 29,000 volunteer members of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary are active on the water and in classrooms in over 2,000 communities across the nation.

Each year Auxiliarists save almost 500 lives, assist about 15,000 vessels in distress, conduct over 150,000 vessel safety checks, and teach over 500,000 students in boating courses.

If you feel strongly about serving your community and enjoying boating, the Coast Guard Auxiliary may be for you.

Auxiliarists are active participants in the Coast Guard mission, through on-water Operations, the Auxiliary's Public Education Program, the Courtesy Examination Program, as Radio Watchstanders, through Coast Guard Recruiting, Marine Environmental Protection or Coast Guard Administration.

The Coast Guard and the Auxiliary provide training in seamanship and related skills, leadership, and Coast Guard administration. Auxiliarists enjoy the confidence that comes with increased knowledge and skills.

Auxiliarists are unpaid volunteers, but serve their communities by providing their time and equipment. Members of the Auxiliary participate at their own level of interest and capabilities. Their reward is the satisfaction of providing an important service to their communities.

Auxiliarists enjoy the fellowship of serving together. The common interests of service and enjoying boating bring together people and many form strong, lasting friendships.

The Auxiliary is open to men and women 17 years of age and older, who are US citizens, and who possess the necessary qualifications.
